I like this title. I like the question it asks or the answer it proposes to give. Why do we fight?
I want to hear from my students. We are existing in a world of wars. International wars seem so far away from us. It's a war inside of the TV, on a channel that we can change. It's inside the radio station that we never listen to. While domestic wars are in our hearts. They are right here on our streets, affecting our families, our immediate lives. And we tune them out as well. How else can a student come to school and learn? How else can a teacher come to school and teach? We must on some level, tune it out. Otherwise we would be too emotionally fragile to accomplish anything.
And then there are the internal wars within our own beings. To follow the crowd off of a cliff or dare to be lonely and safe? Follow our animal drives to conquer each other for lust and greed or suffer the awkward fear of rejection when we dare to meet someone as an equal? Do what is easy and wrong or do what is right and difficult?
Why do we fight? Because we are afraid. Because it is our habit. Because we don't know how else to express ourselves. Is fighting just another form of self-expression? Or do we fight because we have to? From a utopian view point the answer is no, but what does our daily existence tell us? And should we believe our daily experience or should we believe that we can create something different with greater faith, creativity and determination?
These are the questions I ask my students and myself.
Assignment 1:
Students-
Please respond to this blog. You can ask questions and admit confusion or not knowing what to say, but don't stop there. Challenge my thoughts, play the devil's advocate, dare to propose a different opinion. Or agree with me, but tell me why. If you absolutely can't feel this subject, write about what has come to your mind since you read it. Be free to express yourself.

I would like to know the answer because I like many others don't like the concept of fighting. The questions you ask in this blog are very real and need answers. However the questions may never have answers....but thats just my point....so thats how i feel
"Why do we fight?" is a question i ask myself all he time.I feel that some people don't know how to express there selves in in other ways besides fighting which is sad to me because when we have a problem, the first thing that shouldn't come to mind is fighting. We have lost so many love ones to fighting and all kinds of violence by it self. We should be able to talk things out and handle things in a well mannered way. Violence only leads to more violence, which means something bigger could happen from that one little fight. I do agree with you on everybody having to block certain thing off to continue to focus in school, life, work, and so on..So i guess I still don't have a answer to 'Why we fight?"
it all sounds right. but people fight for many different reason. every body be having different feelings. i dont even know what this whole thing about. people fight for respect, power, nothing, freedom. but the world now is going to fight because of dis goverment and all dis political stuff.
I agree with the blog, I feel fighting is a form of self-expression, its not a good way to express yourself but for some, its the only thing they know. Some might just feel they need too prove themselves. War on the other hand i feel is getting out of hand. It does affect families because they're constantly worried about the kids they have fighting in the war, or what might happen to their country. Also knowing that every time they wake up their life could be in danger.
You ask why do we fight, we fight because were scare to be real. we scare of the truth. we hate to keep it real another, we don't want to get alone.
we fight because relationship have failed them. In no love can be shown as well as the truth. violence is rite in our neighborhood.families has been destroy no manners can be shown.
i think people should ask themselves y we resign to fighting instead of using our words. take a stand on wars and everything else they believe in.
i really like this post. i also ask myself this. Why do we fight? I think we do it because its our natural instincs. We are afraid of looking less of a man so we fight so we can look hard. But i dont know the real answer to that.
I don't believe in fighting, but my insight in it is,
most people fight when feeling disrespected, vulnerable,or just to raise there ego.
People also fight for more respect and power, everyone want someone one to feel scared of them so they can feel superior themselves.
we should cope with are feeling and anger in a diffrent way, play some ball, run, write, read, watch TV. if we all did that, searched for a better way to cope ih are feelings.... students would be able to lean better and get their stuff done and not worry about who is going to beat they ass.
teachers would feel more comfortable in a learing invirmonent when there is peace.
lets all get along,we only have one Life and 1 chance to do right.... LETS MAKE THE BEST OUT OF IT!!!!

i fell what you are saying i think that people fight because either there scared or thats what they were bon to do. fighting is the reason why the world is the way it is today. we fight because we all wont be able to get along..
I THINK PEOPLE FIGHT BECAUSE THEY FEEL THE NEED TO, THERE FORCED TO OR THEY WANT TO. I THINK SOMETIMES PEOPLE IGNORE THIS BECAUSE THEY SEE IT ALL THEY TIME..

To keep it real solid fighting is something that is goin to always happen regardless of what n-e body says. Fighting is what makes a relationship strong. When people fight it is a way of gettin anger out by hurting somebody else that can ease your own pain wen your causing someone else's pain. When i fight i fight to really hurt somebody I dont care what any body say i'm gettin active feel me.......people just need to realize that fihting is a habit and you gotta get wht it.

well i believe that people fight because they are angry. most likely somebody hurt them in some way and the person doesn't know how to respond so they retaliate in a childish manner.i think its pointless to fight because everybody is still going to be mad when everything is over and way but like tiana said its self-expression and thats the only way some people kno how to deal with issue
we fight. we fight a lot. in so many ways every day, even if you don't think about it. through speech, gestures, eyes, creations of insult. all innocent, meaningless actions, until the true feeling & meaning of intended injury is expressed through it. but luckily they're not usually expressed damage deeply and start something too serious. manly to get that small pinch of anger out.
unfortunately, the higher the stakes, the more people it affects over all. knives, guns, explosives, all take it up a notch, in a world of defending Right, power, reputation, loved ones, possessions, belief . and even, of course, the body is a weapon. i believe that fighting is away to express your self. Its not the best way but it fulfills some peoples need. fighting is unhealthy and solves nothing to me it just creates more problems.People fight for so many reasons and i believe that no one can really find the real reason why people fight.i also believe that its so much deeper than we think.
